They add height, warmth, and a sense of occasion to any outdoor space. Fill them with pillar candles for a romantic glow, or use battery-operated flameless candles for everyday safety.

Solar Path Lights

A well-lit garden path is both beautiful and practical. Solar path lights have come a long way — the newer ones are bright, reliable, and stay on all night. I line my garden walkway with them and love how they look at dusk.

Uplighting for Drama

Placing a spotlight at the base of a tree and pointing it upward creates a dramatic, beautiful effect. It highlights the texture of the bark and the canopy of leaves in a way that's genuinely stunning — and it's actually quite simple to do.

Don't Overlook the Fire Pit

A fire pit is its own kind of lighting — and the best kind. The flickering light, the warmth, the way it draws people in. If you don't have a permanent fire pit, a portable one is a wonderful investment. Good outdoor lighting doesn't have to be complicated. Layer a few different sources — overhead, at eye level, and at ground level — and you'll have a yard that glows beautifully from dusk until bedtime.
